UPCOMING WEATHER STARTING TO TURN!!!

Greetings All:
Well, after some truly great weather the forecast is about to change things. Look for much cooler weather moving into the Midwest along with wind. Actually, this change should get those walleye and sauger moving more on the Mississippi River. Fish have not been moving towards their usual Fall patterns making for the angler to search them out more. Some action on the wing dams and I look for that to get even better as water temps drop. Fishing up at the dams in pools 12-13 and 14 has been spotty at best. Most of my action coming on down river flat areas with hard bottoms. Look for the winds to help blow baitfish into these shoreline areas and the walleye and sauger will not be far behind. Casting jig/minnow rigs into these areas is a good way to quickly locate active fish. If there is no action in 15 minutes or so, seek out another location until contact with the fish is made.

It might be getting cooler out this coming week but that's just what the doctor ordered to get those fish feeding heavily. Dress warm and enjoy some great late Fall river action on the Mississippi.

WEATHER SWINGS WILL AFFECT FISHING!!!

Greetings All:
Well, once again it is that time of the year when the weather is changing on almost a daily basis. Look for cold fronts to be moving through the Midwest with more regularity as we get deeper into the Fall season. Along with those fronts we have also been experiencing what we did not have in the Summer, RAIN!! With water levels low in most all area water in the Midwest all the rain we can get before the ground freezes up is surely welcome. Currently the Mississippi River is still very low for this time of the year. Hopefully the good folk's up North will send us some water from their rains.
As far as fishing right now, I have been getting some nice walleye and sauger on long wingdams that reach out deep to the main channel. Vertical jigging 1/2 ounce to 3/4th ounce jigs tipped with big minnows getting the fish. This is deep water fishing so boat control is a must to keep your jig where it belongs, close to bottom. Keep your bow pointed upstream and use a "kicker" motor to hold position. With some practice you will get the hang of it. If you wish, you can backtroll slowly upstream but this can get sloppy wet if the wind is blowing.

Remember, adjust your presentation to current weather conditions where you are fishing. You will have much better success if you do.
It's that constantly changing time of the year so learn to adapt and enjoy what vMother Nature has to offer.

MIDWEEK REPORT ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER!!!

Greetings All;

Well, a strong cold front has moved through today with very strong North winds. Water temps have cooled quite a bit and the walleye and sauger have been responding. Some good fish available on the wing dams with long wing dams producing best. Jig/minnow rigs working well. Also some nice white bass still available on sunny days near sand flat areas. White hair jigs, 1/4th ounce size working well. Some crappie also on wing dams fishing minnows. Catfish slowing down but still available on cut baits. If your planning a trip to the Mississippi this coming weekend, forecast is for heavy rains and possible severe weather on Saturday. If this happens, look for river to muddy up making visibility poor. Right now, water is fairly clear and very fishable.

LAST CANADA TRIP OF THE YEAR JUST COMPLETED!!!

Greetings All:
Well, glad to be back in my own bed after my last trip to Canada for this year. It was a busy few days with stops in Hudson Bay for some great goose hunting and then on to the wonderful Canadian Bush country for some fantastic late season fishing on land owned by the Great Cree Nation.

The hunting was superb with some truly nice big geese bagged. Hunting from ground blinds right on the shores of Hudson Bay is an experience to enjoy. Lots of quality birds were available and had much of the hunting area all to myself as I was hunting on private land that is well regulated by allowing only a small number of hunters. Fortunately I am one of the lucky ones to have been invited.

From Hudson Bay it was off to the Canadian Bush country for some wonderful late season angling. Although the temperatures were on the cool side during the day and cold at night, the walleye, northern and big lake trout all cooperated. Many nice fish in the over 25+ pound range were taken and released to fight again. Some of the nice eater sized walleye were kept for those great Canadian shore lunches I love so much. The bigger walleye were returned safely to fight another day.

With my Canadian fishing season over for this year I must say how blessed I am to be able to fish and hunt in that great country. Special thanks goes out to the Great Cree Nation for there wonderful hospitality and treating me as one of their own while giving me the great privilege to share the wonderful bounty their lands have to offer.  Your kindness and acceptance by the Cree Nation is truly wonderful. I look forward to the Spring of 2013 when I can once again hunt and fish with my lifetime Cree friends.
May the cold winds of the coming seasons quickly give way to the warming winds of another Spring. You are all in my thoughts till we meet again.
