RIVER WATER LEVELS CONDUSIVE TO A GOOD BITE!!!

Greetings All:
Well, we have gone from flooded conditions to low water conditions on the Mississippi. The good part though is that the river is very fishable and many different species of fish are biting. Main river is producing some nice smallmouth bass near rocky areas on cranks. Nightcrawlers also catching their fair share of bass on a crawler harness. Good catfish action continues in both the backwaters and main river on dip baits. Crappie and bluegill also available near downed timber on minnows and larvae type bait. One of my seasonal favorites, the white bass is getting better each day with many big fish coming into my livewell. For these bruisers, work flat areas and also steep tapering rocky shorelines. Twister tails and a jig taking many fish. Plastic shad bodied in silver and gray are hot right now.

I'll tell you my friends, look for fishing on the Mississippi to keep improving as we continue through the month of August. This coming Fall should be a real keeper so make your plans now to get out and fish the Mississippi River and enjoy all it has to offer the angler.
