Greetings All:
Well, I predicted it was coming and it has arrived. Muddy water that is. The recent heavy rains up North have finally started making their way down river and the muddy water has arrived also. Visibilities as of this morning were not very good. Less than 2 to 3" using a bright orange jig to test.
These current conditions will hopefully be just a temporary thing. The strong winds are also contributing to the mixing of the water also causing bad visibilities.
Look for catfish action to stay fairly good since they have a very keen sense of smell and can find that "Dipbait" your using. You can search out some of the backwater areas and look for the cleanest water you can find to fish.
Keep checking back here for updates on the river conditions.

CATFISH ACTION BUILDING!!!
Greetings All:
Well, with this hot, humid weather upon us this weekend, the catfish have responded well. Was out this morning in some of my favorite Mississippi River backwaters and the action was awesome.
Look for the deepest water available in the backwaters that have some dead-falls or downed structure laying in the water. Fish the upstream side and use some good old "Stinkbait". The water is warm enough now and the scent of the bait is traveling well in the water and getting Mr. Whiskers attention. If you do not get a bite in 15 minutes, try another spot. When you locate a good hole, you will catch multiple fish from it. G & S Cheesebait has been my favorite for many years and continues to work well. Just remember to bring some rags to clean up with because I am sure your Wife or Girlfriend will not like the way you smell if you don't wash it off. LOL. Not a way to start a romantic evening!!!
Get out and get a mess of these very nice catfish on the old Mississippi. Tonight, it's deep fried catfish fillets for this guy. But don't worry, I'll eat a few for you also!!!!
Take care and enjoy the fishing.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK!!
Greetings All:
Well, these very strong storms that have been popping from the heat have caused some very heavy rains in the area. Areas in Pool 14 from Clinton, IA South have had heavy rains which will muddy the river up. Further North in Pools 10-11012 & 13, you can expect some fair action. Best bet is the farther North you go, the better the fishing will be due to better conditions. Look for some great catfish action on cut baits, bluegill and crappies starting in backwaters and one of my favorite May fish, the Striper are starting to bite well. I have been getting nice, big stripers fishing fast tapering, sandy shorelines by casting a white hair jig, 1/4th ounce tight to shore and bringing it back to the boat. Some of these brutes have been over the 3lb. range and full of fight.
If your planing on heading out this weekend, bring the rain gear as showers are a possibility each day.
Good luck and enjoy the Mississippi River.

BATTLE OF THE SEASONS CONTINUES!!!
Greetings All:
Well, seems like Mother Nature is still making up her mind as to just what season it really is. One day cold, one day warm, the seasons are fighting it out to see who wins. Fortunately, the warmer weather of Spring will prevail but when?
As far as fishing, farm ponds are still a good bet. Lots of quality fish available in these small waters that hold many big fish. I personally have been enjoying great crappie action at one of my favorite farm ponds during this topsy-turvy weather pattern. Using 1/8th ounce jigs I have caught many big slab crappie. As a bonus, the hybrid bluegill have been active on sunny days also. Some bass action but panfish the main catch right now.
If your looking for a place to fish without hauling the boat, try those farm ponds now. You will be glad you did.

Greetings All:
Well, the weekend fishing outlook on the Mississippi River is looking mostly OK. There is a 20% chance of some showers in the area both Saturday and Sunday so don't forget that rain suit.
Fishing in Pools 10-11-12-13 & 14 is on the upswing for all species. The key is picking your spots wisely. With the river water level on the low side, search out that deep water structure just out of the current that the fish are using to hold on. In the backwaters, look for the deepest water available to start your fishing. Good bass and catfish in backwaters along with some nice panfish. Main river fish like walleye and sauger holding in deeper mild current areas like large flats and point areas. Some nice strippers starting to show up down river on sand flats that drop off quickly.
Have yourself a great time on the Mississippi and as always, Save a few for me!!!

HIGH WINDS AND THUNDERSTORMS SLOWING FISHING !!!
Greetings All:
Well, the heavy storms that moved through over the weekend have muddied the river up for a bit and it will effect the fishing for a few days. Combine the rain with the very strong winds and you are really churning the waters up. There is also a pretty good cold front moving through the area that will help to shut the bite off also.
Not to worry though, as the nasty weather is forecast to be short lived and more mild weather is scheduled to return later in the week. There may be a few rain showers during the week but nothing to bad. If your making plans for the upcoming weekend, check ahead for any changes in the forecast. Stop back here at LASTCASTOUTDOORS.COM and find out the latest in river conditions for Pools 11-12-13 & 14.

EASTER WEEKEND FISHING LOOKING GOOD ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
Greetings All:
If your plans include some fishing this weekend on the Mississippi, look for some good action in Pools 10,11,12,13 & 14. Best action down river away from the crowds up in the tailwaters.
Bring along a good selection of jigs in different weights and sizes, some lively minnow and your all set to have a great day. Look for fish on steep tapering banks and also on wingdams. Large flat areas also producing fish.
Lots of smaller male walleye available for the frying pan and larger, egg laden females available for the camera. Release these bigger females so that they can complete their spawning. Get some good photos and handle them gently.
Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and if you do get out fishing,,,,leave a few for me.
